You have finished all the elements of your home. The walls are painted, the curtains are hanging and the furniture is placed... And yet something is missing. Something that catches your attention and gives the room meaning. Art is then in many cases the solution. Art can give a stylish touch. An interesting element in a well-decorated interior. You can select a number of beautiful paintings that subtly reflect your sense of style.
Choose the right method
To hang a painting correctly, it is important to first decide which method you are going to use. The following factors are important to consider:
- The place of work
- The weight of the artwork and how big it is
- The material of the surface
Determine the right place for your artwork:
Hang the center of the painting at eye level, usually about 5 feet (1.65 meters) high. When placing artwork over a piece of furniture, such as a living room couch, the bottom edge of the artwork should be 5 to 8 inches (12 to 20 cm) above the top edge. This will be enough to keep your wall art from looking too busy or too high.
Know what material to use:
For a picture frame a nail or a hanging hook would be sufficient but with art this is often different. A work of art of 100cmx100cm often weighs between 4.5 and 13 kilos. For these works a nail is insufficient. The safest thing to do is to work with a plug.
Choose a plug and a drill, usually 6 mm plugs are used for this. If it is a hollow wall, use a hollow wall plug, this plug can carry up to 10 to 15 kilos. You can tap this plug into the wall with a hammer, and then screw in the screw or hook (with the same diameter as the plug).
Drill in the right place.
Once you know where the artwork will hang and what material to use, comes the “hardest” part. Drilling a hole in the right place. The easiest way is to hang the artwork on the wall in the right place and put a piece of masking tape above the artwork in the middle so that you know exactly where to drill. Take into account the hanging system behind the artwork. For works with a wire on the back, stretch the wire taut to the highest point and then measure the distance from this point to the top edge. Transfer this point to your wall for positioning the drill hole.
For large paintings, two holes are often needed to hang them. To make the second hole completely equal to the first hole, it is recommended to use a spirit level.
And now enjoy
