Chan paints memories of travels, events, people, animals and things. Through his artworks we get a glimpse into his colorful 'diary'. Chan's works are characterized by the directness of color use and form.
In his art we see both figurative and abstract elements. In the artworks these two elements are often intertwined. In this way the figurative elements sometimes disappear under the abstract, only to reappear surprisingly.
Chan often uses a form of action painting in his works. He tells us a story through an intuitive painting style. Often a human figure is the most prominent image, but upon careful study an enormous wealth of detail can be discovered.
