About this artwork
'Victory' Streetshot by Gert Willem Haasnoot
The Spanish sun burns mercilessly on the peeling posters. It creates a beautiful three-dimensional effect. The angular appearance of the man resembles the Socialist Realist art produced in the old Soviet Union, but if you look closely you see the word 'Hombre'. The poster is therefore Spanish.
There was a period when Communism and Socialism were important in Spain; the Spanish Civil War and Franco put a temporary end to that. It does give this composition a certain retro quality. Someone has sprayed a V on the poster and the woodwork. The revolution can still succeed. The Communist Party in Spain is large.
The photo is printed on an aluminum dibond plate, the flat artwork has a frame on the back, which makes it hang 'floating' on the wall.
