Ink - Lars Tunebo | Pop Art painting Rising Sun flag
Tunebo is internationally renowned for his humorous photomontages featuring wild animals in iconic global cities. With works like 'Ink' and his more recent series, he experiments with pop culture icons and vintage dolls. This piece features a black and white portrait of a young woman, styled as a vintage doll with a large straw hat. Behind her is a fiery, graphic background of red and white rays fanning out from a central point. This motif is inspired by the historic Japanese Rising Sun flag, a symbol popular in Western pop art for its immense visual and dynamic impact.
Each work is constructed from countless digital layers, photos, and filters in Photoshop. After printing the silkscreen, Tunebo entirely hand-finishes the surface with transparent liquid colours, varnishes, and individual effects. This work is part of an edition of 3 pieces and measures 110 x 160 cm, framed behind museum glass.
