About this artwork
In 'Amsterdam Designer Shopping Street I', contemporary Dutch artist Rick Triest pays tribute to the symbiosis between historic culture and modern luxury. The facades of the characteristic canal houses serve as shop windows for world-famous fashion houses such as Lanvin, Gucci and Jimmy Choo. The street and rooftops are subtly yet unmistakably woven into Louis Vuitton's iconic monogram pattern. The contrast between the deep black/blue background and the rich use of gold leaf gives the artwork a luxurious sheen.
About Rick Triest
Rick Triest (Purmerend 1989) is a successful contemporary Dutch artist. He is entirely self-taught and describes his work as: hotel chic and glamour. The iconic Amsterdam canal houses form a common thread in his oeuvre. He enjoys combining the Amsterdam cityscape in a playful way with logos from luxury brands.
Although his style is modern, he uses classical techniques inspired by masters such as Rembrandt. He builds up his paintings with 8 to 12 layers of acrylic paint. Each painting begins with a bold charcoal sketch on canvas. The paint is then applied thickly, creating a tactile, 3D-like texture.
The paintings feature a gold wax seal with Triest's signature and come with a certificate of authenticity.
