About this artwork
Rick Triest - Canal Houses XVII - Amsterdam Painting
A row of Amsterdam canal houses in red, navy blue, grey and salmon pink against a light blue sky. In this work, the architecture itself takes centre stage: no brand logos, but characteristic stepped and bell gables, outlined with gold lines in thick layers of acrylic paint.
About Rick Triest:
Rick Triest (Purmerend, 1989) is a contemporary Dutch artist. He is entirely self-taught and describes his work as hotel chic and glamour. The iconic Amsterdam canal houses form a recurring theme in his oeuvre, often playfully combined with logos of luxury brands.
Although his style is modern, he uses classical techniques, inspired by masters such as Rembrandt. Each painting begins with a charcoal sketch on canvas, after which he builds it up in 8 to 12 layers of acrylic paint. The thickly applied paint creates a tactile, almost three-dimensional texture.
The paintings feature a gold wax seal with Triest's signature and come with a certificate of authenticity.
