About this artwork
Ronald Chapeau's ode to the iconic 1960s photo of Brigitte Bardot with her camera. Photography was Brigitte Bardot's hobby; the photo on which this artwork is based was a spontaneous 'behind-the-scenes' moment captured during a break on the film set of the famous French adventure-comedy Viva Maria! In this artwork, we see Brigitte with her Nikon F camera against a yellow background.
Chapeau works with a signature blend of screen printing, collage, and thick layers of acrylic paint, often enriched with vintage newspapers. The result is layered, tactile work that never feels entirely flat.
The monotypes are produced by the artist in a very limited edition and are stretched on a thick stretcher frame with the sides also painted.
